A bill to define wake boats has been filed for the 2021 legislative session.

Good evening boaters –

IMPORTANT UPDATE: A BILL TO “DEFINE WAKE BOATS” HAS BEEN FILED FOR THE 2021 LEGISLATIVE SESSION by a State Representative from Wolfeboro. This is the effort to define and single out tow boats (“wake boats”) for bans and restrictions that has been requested and promoted by Tom O’Brien, the President of the NH LAKES Association. The feedback we have heard from legislators spoken to is that NH LAKES argues it would be best to have a definition in state law to make it easier to ban these boats from lake to lake. We will STRONGLY oppose this legislation.

WHAT WE NEED TO DO: We need your input and help collecting data. PLEASE TAKE this short 15-20 question survey ASAP. We need to promote efforts to increase education and enforcement – NOT DEFINE AND BAN BOATS. Efforts like NH’s Wake Responsibly campaign just started late this summer – we need time to continue our efforts to educate boat operators. The problems come from operators, not a particular kind of boat. PLEASE pass this survey on to other boaters in your family and friend networks. The more input the better.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y3Q9NXN PLEASE TAKE SURVEY BY November 30th.

WHO DO YOU KNOW? Finally, do you know your local State Representative or State Senator? Do you happen to be connected to NH’s political leadership in any way? Please let me know. As we develop strategy, our efforts to communicate with Governor Sununu and legislators from both the House and Senate is critical to our success and will need to include voices from all stakeholders (dealers, boaters, manufacturers). In the coming days, we will send out talking points for your review and use so our messaging is clear, concise and unified. We will also send out ways to contact your legislator about this critical issue.

The effort to stop this bill will take coordination and collaboration between the manufacturers, dealers and especially boaters. We need to work collectively so we can put our best strategies and arguments forward. I am happy to answer ANY questions you may have – feel free to reach out to me by email or phone.

We will protect everyone’s rights to use the waterways.

Thank you for your continued support.
